Day 17 - Trust Walk

Trust Walk Day 17.  I trust You, Lord.  You are my shelter and strong tower.  Psalm 61:3

I wanna run to you (oooh)
I wanna run to you (oooh)
Won't you hold me in your arms?
And keep me safe from harm
I wanna run to you (oooh)
But if i come to you (oooh)
Tell me, will you stay or will you run away

These are the lyrics from the soundtrack "The Bodyguard" and sang by Whitney Houston. These words were not sang in the choir during church service. No siree. They were sang in a movie to a man. But when you read Psalm 61:3, doesn't it seem like these lyrics fit?

For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.  Psalm 61:3

You want to run and hide. You want to feel safe. You want to feel loving arms wrapped around you. Instead, you are in a relationship where you never   feel safe and loved. You are on a job where persecution runs rampant. You are in a place of great oppression. You want run, but if you run to Him, will He stay around?  I guarantee He will stay with you if you'll stay with Him.

As promised to the Israelites, God has assured us He would never leave us our forsake us. When we depend on man for strength and shelter, we will always end up with the short end of the stick. But if you abide in Him, He will stick closer to you than a brother .

David began chapter 61 of this psalm crying out to God. 'Hear my cry, Lord. Please listen to me!" he said You don't have to do much to get God's attention. Just approach Him with a sincere and repentant heart. He'll listen. Just call out to Him as David did. Call His name and He will answer.  He has all the time in the world for you. You are so special to Him that He drops everything to attend to you. You are the apple of His eye!

In verse 2, David gave some a great example:

  1. How would David pray? I will cry unto thee - David knew not to turn to anyone else to meet his needs. He called on the Lord God only.
  2. Where would David pray? From the ends of the earth - there is no special place to pray, but David indicated that he would pray everywhere, even in the farthest corners of the earth.
  3. When would David pray? When my heart is overwhelmed - David knew to turn to his maker when he felt low and heavy. He didn't run to man. He ran to God.
  4. What is it that David will pray for?  Lead me to the rock - the Rock, the rejected Cornerstone, Jesus!  The Rock is our Savior. Sure the prophesy of Jesus had not been realized during the writing of this Psalm, but David knew He was coming and was smart enough to know that he needed the Rock in times of trouble.

David, who was constantly being chased by Saul, knew that he couldn't do it alone. Sure, he had earthly help along the way, but when it really boiled down to it, he knew to call for his daddy to help him, to guide him, to protect him, and to cover him.

The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.  Proverbs 18:10

When you want to call out to someone for help, call Him. He will give His angels charge over you (Psalm 91:11). Run into His open arms where you will feel safe and warm.

Daddy's girl,
